Product Spotlight: Why We Love GREE Flexx

At ComfortUp, we know all about both central and mini-split heat pumps. The Flexx central heat pump system from GREE is one of our favorite products for many reasons. Heat pumps continue to grow in popularity as they provide effective and energy-efficient cooling during the summer while also keeping your home warm even in below-zero temperatures.

Unlike a ductless mini split system, the Flexx is a central heat pump that has its own blower and uses your existing ductwork to help it transfer heat to your home's air in the winter and remove heat from the air in the summer. Of course, the Flexx can work with most existing blowers and air handlers, but for optimal performance, we do recommend using the compatible Flexx blower. This ensures you can stay comfortable all year long while saving you money compared to using a gas furnace or any other type of electric heating.

What You Need to Know About Flexx Central Split Systems

Flexx central split systems are available in two to five-ton models that produce anywhere from 24,000 to 60,000 BTUs. Whether you have an 800-square-foot space or a 3,000-square-foot home, you can easily find the perfect unit to heat and cool your home effectively.

Any air-source heat pump will be far more energy-efficient than any type of electric resistance heating and will effectively heat your home using anywhere from one-third to one-fifth as much electricity. Depending on where you live, a heat pump could potentially reduce your yearly electricity usage by 3,000 kWh. That being said, Flexx systems are far more energy efficient than many other heat pumps as they are all rated up to 17 SEER2 and 10.5 HSPF2.

Another advantage is that these units run extremely quietly. Under normal conditions, a Flexx central split will only produce around 45 decibels of sound, similar to the average noise level in a library or the amount of sound a bird makes. This means there is very little chance that you will ever hear the outdoor unit running unless you're standing next to it.

How to Know if a Central Split Heat Pump Is Right for You

Flexx systems are ideally suited for both smaller and larger buildings. As long as the building has an existing ductwork system, these systems are virtually guaranteed to be one of the most cost-effective central heating options available. If you're looking to heat and cool a home without ductwork or any rooms that aren't connected to a central HVAC system, then you will want to check out mini split installation instead.

Many people are hesitant to switch to a heat pump system because they are concerned that it won't efficiently heat the home when it gets really cold outside. This used to be a legitimate concern as the energy efficiency and effectiveness of many older heat pumps decreased drastically once the outdoor temperature dropped below freezing.

However, this isn't something you will typically need to be concerned with if you opt for a Flexx system. All Flexx models have been proven to heat effectively in temperatures as low as -22 degrees Fahrenheit. There may still be a few days a year when your home would need an auxiliary heat source if you live in an extremely cold climate, but in most cases, your system will be able to keep your home warm throughout the winter with no issue. Whether installing it in a large home, smaller apartment, or your business, you also won't have to worry about the system's performance in the summer. Flexx systems also cool effectively in temperatures up to 129 degrees.

The fact is that you have a number of different options for heating and cooling your home.
